The AC Compressor has a clutch that is made up of an electromagnetic material. The clutch helps to engage or disengage the pulley on the compressor. The clutch is the part that engages when you turn your ac on. The belt turns freely on the clutch pulley until the ac is turned on, once it is turned on the clutch will engage and make the ac compressor start pumping the freon throughout the cars ac system.
